We are loving all the excitement and conversations the new sports park at Bender Fields is getting. Almost daily we are reminded of how giving and selfless people and business in our community are. But, I thought we could take a moment and look at the other projects Mt. Baker Rotary has been involved in over the past year.
Let's start off with the Community Projects Committee. As local charities, events, schools and other social clubs approach us, it is the Community Project Committees role to select which needs to fund - not an easy task for them.
Here is a rundown of some of the local needs we were able to help fund:
- Lynden High School - Green and Gold Football - Tony Wilson Scholarship Fund
- Lynden High School - Green and Gold Golf - Girls Golf Team
- Lynden High School - FFA
- Lynden Police Association - Fitness Facility Equipment
- Readers Care Fund
- Northwest Washington Fair Association - Tough Enough to Wear Pink
- Northwest Washington Fair Association - Agriculture Adventure Center
- Lynden PTA - Roar and Soar Fund
- Blaine Girls Youth Basketball
- Rise Against Hunger
- Nooksack Valley Riders
- Miss Whatcom County Scholarship Program
- Never to Forever - Mad Hope/Beacon for Life
- Partners for Schools - Be the One
- YWAM-North Cascades
- Meridian Youth Athletic Association
- Jansen Art Center
All in all the Mt Baker Rotary Club was able to fund over $23,000 to these local organizations! Very exciting to see needs in our own backyard be fulfilled.
Just a reminder that a majority of the donations that we give out are a result of our once a year auction. It is because of the generosity of the community that we are able to raise the money needed to give back to our local community and around the globe.
Next article we will hit on the international needs that we get to be a part of.
